Baguio Country Club needed a talking point for their signature raisin bread before their Christmas Village opened. They wanted a modern advertising tool to create interest and impact. The specific goal was to showcase the craft behind each loaf.
We built them a corner naked-eye 3D billboard. This technology is the future for marketing campaigns. It uses an optical illusion called anamorphosis to make visuals seem to jump out without special glasses. The technology uses high-resolution LED screens and specific viewing angles. From the correct position, the distorted image looks clearly three-dimensional.
We executed their concept as a 3D LED billboard installation. The animation starts with the final raisin bread, then breaks down to show milk, raisin seeds, and flour. These ingredients reform back into bread, then wrap themselves in a paper bag. This sequence showed the making process in ways impossible with traditional advertising.
People stopped to film the sequence. The effective display became a talking point across the Philippines and created a memorable impact for the brand.
Production
The installation featured a corner LED wall measuring 3.21m + 3.21m wide by 3.68m high. This corner configuration meant viewers could see it from multiple angles.
We started by gathering all LED specifications. This included the exact corner wall size, screen size, resolution, and the 120-degree curve detail. This precise data is vital for creating the correct anamorphosis effect. We also did a live shoot location survey to plan camera angles and lighting.
We received the actual raisin bread product for reference. We photographed it to create accurate 3D models. Our team also created the 3D background and wooden frame.
Our process began with storyboards, photomatics, and animatics. We coordinated schedules with the client and talent for the shoot. After the shoot, we received the materials and began editing, with our director refining the cut for offline approval.
Next, we moved into CG production. Our team modelled each ingredient to look real under outdoor LED conditions. VFX compositing integrated the live-action talent with the 3D ingredients. We used colour grading to optimise the animation for LED screens.
We conducted onsite testing to check how the animation performed on the actual LED wall.
Challenges We Solved
We managed the entire creative process, from pre-production to production and post-production. Baguio Country Club entrusted us to handle all creative phases. It was a privilege to receive this trust and creative freedom. We delivered the complete production, and the final piece was displayed publicly during the Christmas Village opening.
Finding the correct pacing for each scene within the allocated video time was essential for the animatics and offline edit. The raw talent recordings needed to sync with the animation timing. We slowed down and sped up clips to match the pacing while keeping the movement natural.
One challenge involved making the 3D bread look like the talent was holding it. We motion tracked the 3D bread to her hand for a convincing result. We had her hold a blue placeholder object with tracker marks during the shoot for precise tracking in post. For the bread bag folds, we found an efficient approach that avoided frame-by-frame work.
The Result
The 3D LED billboard went live in Baguio City for the Christmas Village season. Viewers filmed the sequence from different angles. Seeing the final piece displayed publicly was rewarding for the team. The project strengthened our technical skills and our approach to collaboration.
